Bollywood

Bollywood

Bollywood is a take on Hollywood, by saying they want to be as big as Hollywood, and it is getting almost getting that way. Bollywood make million dollar productions. Bollywood is being so popular they are having financial success so they are branching out the filming places, this places include Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, US. The money for Bollywood would come from different means un-like Hollywood the money comes from strange sources, such as private businessmen that possibly make money from private sources.

A major problem from Bollywood, is pirate copies of the films which are often sold before the release of the film in cinema and FICCI estimates that Bollywood loses $100 million a year lost because of pirated films. The internet also contributes to the problem. These bootleg copies are the only way that people in pakistan can watch these movies because the government have banned the marketing, distribution and everything else of Bollywood films, this just fuels the underground pirating market. Satellite TV, television and imported films are having an effect on the domestic indian entertainment market (Bollywood). In the past, Bollywood used to make money but now they don't really make money, and the industry is being threatened by these DVDs.
Tickets sold in 2002 was 3.6 billion, and had total revenue of $1.3 billion, where has Hollywood sold 2.6 billion tickets, and made a revenue of $51 billion.

The film Bride and Prejudice had funding from the UK film industry on the basis that most of the filming happened in the UK.

Most Bollywood stars used to create posters and flyers by man because it turned out to be cheaper to use human labour than printing materials. The release of the music before the film was considered a way of advertising. A popular tune is believed to help the audiences come into the cinemas.
They are beginning to use the internet to advertise the film, they start up there own websites that include information about the stories, cast and trailers of the film.

Bollywood is also used to advertising other products for example product placing. Products would be placed in the films, and the company would pay to have there product seen in the film.

Bollywood movie stars are seen in other advertisement for example watches, other companies believe that stars boost the sales of products. This is seen in the UK as-well because people are attracted by the stardom. Samsung use the film bride and prejudice to market there products.
